chick corea, return to forever
I was running through my CD collection today trying to see if I have more chick corea's music than I thought I had, as I have a lot of unopened CDs. To my disappointment, I do not. Having a lot of unopened CDs is a sign of mental laziness but at this point, i am not in the mood for self-deprecating as I have done enough self-hammering lately. I was surprised to find that I have tons of Bill Evans, Astor Piazzolla, Jan Garbarek, Monk, John Surman, Eberhard Weber and chick corea. Mostly carried by ECM. (Chick corea, or Gary Burton to be exact, I should say, still runs really high on my list). They were all acquired at the time I was seriously trying to find a voice or sound that resonates with my inner voice. I guess I never find it for sure. But I figure that's what life is about, at least for me. Leonard Bernstein once mentioned that Chick Corea is one of the most important young musicians nowadays. Now the young man has turned into an old man. My music taste sort of falls behind our time (or I should say my taste for everything, I like things that're already filtered through the test of time). (I guess thtis is another sign of mental laziness). Chick corea's Duet with Gary Burton really touches me, like two computers talking directly to each other withougt even the need for cables.
